In this article we will review SBI Simply Click Credit Card which can help you save a lot of money with online shopping on Amazon and other websites. Apart from that, the card has lot many other benefits.
1) Basic card with very good benefits
The SBI SimplyClick Card is a basic card from SBI, yet it has some very good benefits for it users. If you are a credit card beginner, then this is a good card to start with. For others, who are already using credit cards, for them also this is a good additional card to have considering the benefits and the merchant offers that SBI keeps coming up with on a regular basis.
2) Who should go for this card?
If you spend online regularly on websites like Amazon, BookMyShow, Cleartrip etc. then you should definitely go for this card. If you are a regular offline spender, then you should go for the other variant which is SBI SimplySave Card.
3) Benefits of SBI Simply Click Credit Card
a) One time welcome gift of Amazon voucher worth Rs. 500 on payment of annual membership fee of Rs. 499.
b) 10 reward points for every Rs. 100 spent online on exclusive partners: Amazon, BookMyShow, Cleartrip, Foodpanda, Lenskart, Netmeds, Rentmojo and UrbanClap. Each point is 0.25 Rs. This results in 2.5% value when the card is used on partner websites
c) 5 reward points for every Rs. 100 spent on all other online spends. This results in 1.25% value back on all websites apart from partner websites
d) 1 reward point for every Rs. 100 spent on all other spends
e) Milestone rewards: Cleartrip e-voucher worth Rs. 2000 on annual online spends of Rs. 1 lakh. Additional Cleartrip e-voucher worth Rs. 2000 on annual online spends of Rs. 2 lakhs.
f) Waiver of 1% fuel surcharge for each transaction between Rs. 500 and Rs. 3000
4) Fees
Joining fee: Rs. 499 (Welcome gift of Rs. 500 Amazon voucher)
Annual fee: Rs. 499 (reversed on annual spends of Rs. 1 lakh and above in the previous year)
5) How to make the best use of SBI SimplyClick Card
SBI Card comes up with regular discount / cashback offers for all its card holders. Some of these offers are with the exclusive partners of the SBI SimplyClick Card. This is where you can make the best use of the SBI SimplyClick Card.
Let me explain this with an example. Since the last few months, SBI Card has been coming out with a 15% discount offer for all SBI cardholders on Amazon during the Amazon Super Value Day offer. I avail this offer every month for purchasing my groceries and daily use household products and get very good benefits as follows:
a) Amazon gives up to 40% direct discount on product MRP (I have been getting average 10 to 20% discount on entire order every month based on my past experience)
+
b) 15% direct discount when you pay through SBI card on minimum order value Rs. 1500+. This offer is applicable on all SBI debit / credit cards including SBI SimplyClick Card
+
c) 200 Amazon Pay cashback by using promocode for Prime customers who had shopped during Prime Day and qualified for the offer
+
d) Additional coupon discount on specific products offered by merchants
+
e) Up to 5.5% cashback when you place your order through Cashkaro
+
f) 2.5% value back for SBI SimplyClick cardholders (10 reward points for every Rs. 100 spent where each point is equivalent to Re 0.25)
+
g) When your total online (Amazon and other websites) spends on the SBI SimplyClick Card go above Rs. 1 lakh in a year, you will get a Cleartrip e-voucher of Rs. 2000. This will result in additional value back of 2%
If you place an Amazon order of Rs. 2,000 and calculate the combined value of all the above benefits, it will result in total savings of 40% to 60% for you. So on an order of Rs. 2,000, you can get benefits of Rs. 800 to Rs. 1,200, which is huge! I get these savings every month for my groceries and daily use household products.
Similarly, you can use the SBI SimplyClick credit card and plan your purchases on other partner websites by clubbing it with merchant partner discount, credit card discount and other benefits (third party cashback, additional coupon discount, reward points, milestone benefits etc.). This will result in huge savings for you.
6) How to maximise your benefits?
Let us take the example of Amazon and understand how to maximise your benefits on this card. To maximise your benefits on the SBI SimplyClick Card, you need to know the following:
a) Which website you should shop from? (Amazon is an exclusive partner for SBI SimplyClick Card)
b) When to shop? (During Amazon Super Value Day offer, all SBI cardholders get 15% discount)
c) What are the additional reward points benefits on your SBI SimplyClick Card (10 reward points for every Rs. 100 spent on Amazon resulting in additional 2.5% value back)
d) What are the additional milestone benefits on your SBI SimplyClick Card (Rs. 2,000 Cleartrip e-voucher when your total online spends cross Rs. 1 lakh. This results in additional 2% value back)
e) What are the 3rd party cashbacks that you can get (up to 5.5% cashback from Cashkaro on Amazon orders)
f) What are the coupon discounts that you can get? (Some Amazon merchants give additional coupon discounts)
g) Any other benefits that you can get? (Amazon gives additional cashbacks for Prime Members)
7) Which credit card should you select?

7 thoughts on “SBI Simply Click Credit Card: Save on online shopping”
Hi, I just came across your blog today and must say hats off! and glad to see our thoughts are alike in many cases 🙂
I’m bachelor, planning to take SBI Simply Save ‘Pro’ Card (with 5x reward on Grocery etc / 125 spent) with annual fee reversal on 30k+ spending in a year. My fixed spending are 2500 Grocery etc (90% Gofers/Big-basket/Amazon-Pantry + 10% Offline Local Stores), Medical offline expenses 1200 etc, Utility Bill 1500. I also spend ~2000/year on Kindle eBooks.
I already have Amazon ICICI Card. I wanted to take SBI Simply Click, but as per my calculation, since my spending will not cross > 1 Lac hence for Simply Click I need to pay 590 Rs yearly, but for Simply-Save ‘Pro’ if I spend only grocery 2.5×12=30k my card will be free for the year. Remaining for Utility & Medical bill I’ll get 2% cashback if I spend via Amazon-CC. However there’s loss of -300 Rs cashback for 30k spent via SBI instead of ICICI but +60 Rs gain at 1% SBI rewards.
I need your help on below points-
1) Let me know if my logic is correct behind considering Save-pro card over Simply-Click card!
2) Also If you can confirm whether SBI Simply-Save / Save-Pro Card considers Grofers/BigBasket/Amazon-Pantry as ‘Grocery’ spending category and will give 5x reward points ? On ICICI statement, only Amazon-Pantry transaction shows as “AMAZON.IN - GROCERY”, but Grofers shows ‘GROFERS INDIA PVT LTD’ if you notice! Some online forum says Grofers is considered as ‘grocery’ for SBI, but no concrete information is there ðŸ™
3) Also wish to know which tool/app/technique you use for daily expense / monthly budget tracking and what for journal/diary maintaining for daily life events ?
4) Also in SBI Card ‘annual fee reversal’ means first charging 499+90 GST then refunding -499 ? In that case, user need to pay 91 Rs from pocket for GST! Or just ‘not charging’ any fees in next year if 1 Lac is spent in a calendar year.
5) Also if purchases made on Nedmeds/PharmEasy after redirected from Amazon website, if made via Amazon-CC, will eligible for 3% cashback or 1% only ?
Sorry if the question is too long! After reading your articles, I think you’re the best person to ask these questions 🙂
Hi Juniper,
Following are my replies in response to your queries:
1) SBI SimplyCLICK is a better card as compared to SimplySAVE as most of your grocery purchases are online. When you use the SimplyCLICK card on Amazon for grocery purchases during the Amazon Super Value Day offer (usually 1st week of the month), you will get upto 30% discount on MRP from Amazon + 5-10% direct discount on credit card usage + 10X reward points. In case of SimplySAVE card you will get 5X reward points. Also, when you spend Rs. 1 lakh in a year on online purchases, you will get a ClearTrip voucher of Rs. 2,000, which is additional 2% value back. Apart from this, SBI keeps coming up with various discount and cashback offers on SimplyCLICK card in various segments. So, according to me SimplyCLICK card will be better for you rather than SimplySAVE as most of your spending is online rather than offline.
2) The card spends that you do are classified under specific codes. If the particular transaction is classified under the specific code for groceries, then you will get 5X points for that transaction. For example, on BigBasket, Grofers most spends will get classified under grocery category. In case of Amazon, spends on Amazon Pantry will get classified under grocery, whereas a mobile purchase transaction will get classified under another category code. So it all depends on the product purchased and the code that it falls under and accordingly the reward points will be allotted.
3) I use an MS Excel sheet for tracking my monthly purchases of groceries. I don’t have any journal/diary for daily life events.
4) Honestly speaking, I have never paid attention to whether the Annual Fee is first charged and then reversed next month or whether it is not charged at all on meeting the annual spend threshold. For me the annual benefits that I get from card usage (direct discounts, reward points, milestone benefits, and other benefits) are far more (many multiple times) the annual fee paid. So, I don’t mind paying the annual fee of Rs. 500 + GST. I am more than happy to pay the annual fees. The fee based cards give a lot more benefits as compared to FREE cards.
5) Amazon Pay ICICI credit card gives 1% reward points on transactions done on 3rd party websites like Netmeds / PharmEasy when you pay using the credit card directly. If these websites accept Amazon Pay, then you can load your Amazon Pay wallet using the Amazon Pay ICICI credit card and get 2% reward points. You can then use the Amazon Pay balance to pay for the transaction. From time to time, Amazon keeps coming up with additional offers. These offers are over and above the 1-2% reward points that you can get as I have explained above. For example as on 13th September, one of the offers going on is: “Get 50% cashback up to Rs. 40 on PharmEasy”. This offer is for Amazon Prime Members. You have to collect the offer. When you pay using Amazon Pay balance on PharmEasy during the offer period, you will get the cashback.
So you load Amazon Pay balance in your Amazon Pay wallet using the Amazon Pay ICICI credit card and get 2% reward points. Then use this Amazon Pay balance on PharmEasy website and get the “50% cashback up to Rs. 40 on PharmEasy”. This way you can avail both the offers.
I hope, I have answered all your questions to your satisfaction.
Thanks Gopal for your quick and detailed reply.
But I would like to add few things here 🙂
1) You said SimplyCLICK card is better on Amazon for grocery + retail purchases, with 2.5% CB at 10x rewards. But I think ICICI is winner here as it gives minimum 3% on ALL Amazon purchases, including Pantry.
2) My 90% grocery purchases are online & 10% offline. Out of online, 90% are on Grofers/Bigbasket, and 10% are Amazon. (I observed Grofers gives 2-10 Rs less on same products, with Smart Bachat Club SBC membership).
3) Just wanted to check with you if you can confirm, purchases made on Grofers/Big-Basket will eligible for 10x reward category in SimplySAVE Card (and 5x reward category in SimplySAVE Pro).
4) I believe, if there is net +ve benefit, by procuring a credit card, then I should get that card. As annual fees+GST paid is -ve cashflow and cashback is +ve cashflow. The sum should be +ve to support taking a credit card.
There should be absolute gain in +ve figures if I choose to use that card over any existing card. Or at least I should know the break even point. I think that’s called Opportunity Cost!
5) About SBI Cards, if you could confirm whether annual fees is first charged then reversed, or it’s ‘not charged’ at all if 1 Lac spend limit is achieved. You just need to check your card’s anniversary month’s statement +/- one month.
6) I regularly gets calls from HDFC Cards sales team for credit card offers, however I don’t have any HDFC Bank account. They try to offer me HDFC credit cards, they say I can be eligible for HDFC Regalia First card.
But I checked online, its annual fees is 1k+GST = 1118 Rs. So I politely declined. Do you think I should take it ? Can a person with ~16000 total monthly spending can break-even an HDFC card ?
Online forums says setting an utility bill (any amount) in HDFC SmartBuy app makes HDFC card life-time-free. Is it true for Regalia First Card also? What’s your experience?
7) My sole purpose of getting an SBI Card is Amazon/Grofers/BB gives 5% discount offers per month 1st week (and 10-15% offers on sales), to avail those offers.
Hi Juniper,
Please find my replies in the sequence of the points that you have mentioned:
1) I look at the direct discount offered on credit card usage and the reward points as value back. During the Amazon Super Value Days offers (in the 1st week of every month), Amazon Pay ICICI credit card offers 5% direct discount (subject to maximum Rs. 250) + 5% reward points as value back. Many times, I exhaust the 5% direct discount limit of Rs. 250. So for the next grocery order on Amazon, in the same month, I use SBI SimplyCLICK. So, I agree with you that Amazon Pay ICICI credit card is 1st priority for grocery purchases from Amazon and once the discount limit is exhausted, then comes SBI SimplyCLICK
2) When I look at the combination of direct discount on MRP + direct discount on credit card usage + value back in the form of reward points + Amazon Pay cashbacks (on specific occasions like Prime Day offers and other offers) + CashKaro cashback, then I feel Amazon is better, then comes BigBasket and then comes Grofers. This is what I have observed. I respect your observation.
3) I cannot comment on this as I don’t have much information on SimplySAVE credit card. I own SimplyCLICK credit card, so I have more information on that card
4) You are considering only annual fees as a metric to evaluate credit card. I consider merchants where card can be used, the direct discounts offered by merchants, the direct discount offered for credit card usage, the reward points, the milestone benefits, spend based offers, lounge access, gift vouchers, third party cashbacks, other benefits, etc. etc.. To enjoy all these benefits, if I have to pay a small credit card annual fee, I am perfectly fine with it. Usually, I recover the fee paid within 1 to 2 months of card usage, and from the 2nd or 3rd month onwards for the entire remaining year, there is positive cashflow in the form of card benefits
5) With regards to SBI SimplyCLICK, I have never crossed the Annual Fee waiver milestone of Rs. 1 lakh. So, I have always paid the fee. As, I have never reached the milestone, I am not aware whether they don’t charge the fee or whether they first charge and then reverse it. I use SBI SimplyCLICK only for specific purchases and hence the milestone for annual fee waiver is never achieved. But, even with limited usage, I derive multiple times benefit of the annual fee. So I am more than happy to pay the annual fee. I hold around 5 credit cards, wherein each card has specific usage. So my monthly expenses are spread over different cards depending on the benefits that they offer. So to answer your question in short, I have never got waiver on annual fee, so I am not aware of whether they directly waive off or whether they first charge and then reverse it.
6) Frankly speaking, there are many other cards, from HDFC as well as from other banks, that offer benefits much higher than HDFC Regalia First. So, personally I will not recommend HDFC Regailia First. With regards to breakeven, I have already explained my funda of deriving value V/s annual fee payment. For getting a life time free card, there are various eligibility criteria. What you have mentioned (utility bill payment) is just one of them. These kind of offers are introduced from time to time for limited periods. So I cannot comment on the offer that you have mentioned. You should always check the latest offer directly on the bank website or customer care or branch officials. You should not rely on online forums
7) What you have mentioned is a good purpose to have a SBI card
I hope I have answered all your queries satisfactorily

Dear Gopal, I’m deciding to take Simply Save Pro card.
Can you confirm practical examples of grocery, dining, movies and departmental stores based on your real experience (not copy-paste from TnC) for SBI Simply Save Card ?
1) Offline Medicine Shop (Apollo Pharmacy/1med/medplus/other) gets 10x rewards in ‘department stores’ category ?
2) Online Medicine Sites (1mg/Netmeds/PharmEasy/Apollo 24×7) gets 10x rewards in ‘department stores’ category ?
3) Malls (BigBazar/Reliance Fresh/More/Spencers) gets 10x rewards in ‘grocery’ category ?
4) Swiggy/Zomato/Dineout eligible for 10x reward points in ‘dining’ category ?
5) Offline cloth stores / kirana stores falls under which category ?
6) BookMyShow (BMS) eligible for 10x reward points in ‘movies’ category ?
7) Yatra/MMT/ClearTrip how much reward point they give for Simply Save, any idea ?
Any other spends which give 10x / 5x accelerated reward points based on your experience for Simply Save card ?
Hi Juniper,
You have asked about SBI Simply Save Pro card. I would like to inform you that I don’t have SBI Simply Save Pro. So I can’t confirm any parctical examples. I have SBI Simply Click card. From your above list, I can confirm the practical example for Amazon grocery segment for which I have used the SBI Simply Click card many times. For every Rs. 100 that I spend on Amazon, I get 10 reward points which is equivalent to 2.5% value back. For all other categories like offline groceries, dining, movies, travel, etc. I use other credit cards that offer a lot more value as compared to SBI Simply Click.
